Fujara - UNESCO List of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity

Fujara is a typical shepard`s flute known only in Slovakia. You will not find it anywhere else in the world. The regions of Poľana and Gemer in central Slovakia are considered to be the place of origin. This long and massive pipe (it can be as long as 1.8 meters) is usually made of elder tree. It has a characteristic melancholic tone. It is often decorated with ornaments. It was inscribed into the UNESCO List of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity in 2005.

The strongest and most magnificent tone comes from Fujara Trombita which can be up to 6 meters long. Mostly used as a signalig instrument  for shepards on the pastures in the mountains.
